What Are You Doing to Make a Difference?
5 Ways to Deal with TS
Here are some ways you can help:
**Support the Tourette Syndrome Association! Go to the TSA official website and find out how you can donate to the TSA, run for people with Tourette, and more!
**If you would like to help stop the negative portrayal of Tourette Syndrome in todays media, sign this petition, and if you want to do more, email us at teensWts@gmail.com
Do you want to raise awareness for another cause?
**Don't only support Tourette Syndrome awareness & teensWts. Start a website for your own cause!**
1. Make a plan!
Decide on a cause and name for your website, then make a list of your goals, and decide on your target audience for awareness.
2. Get parent's permission ;)
Unless you're at least 18, you will need to ask your parents before creating a webpage for your cause.
3. Register your email
You want to be sure your email for your website is relative to your website! If your website is teenswts.net then a good email would be "teensWts" and not "supercoolgirl555" or "awesomekid88". :) A great, free email server is Gmail. It's really good with organizing files, and sounds pretty professional! ;)
4. Register domain
It's best to start out with a free webpage creater such as www.Freewebs.com. They have tons of free layouts to choose from also, and it is really simple to create a website. (Freewebs is the website teensWts was started on! I kept my freewebs domain for a few months, and upgraded to the .net when I saw the positive impact my site was making.)
5.Graphics and Pages
From my experiences, it can take up to 6 months to fully develop a website with the right graphics and pages. (If you use a website such a Freewebs it will be a lot faster!) Knowing what colors to use, what programs to use, and what type of things to have on your website. Work hard at it, and don't be too nervous to ask opinions from family and friends!
6. Advertising
Now your website is open...but how do you get people to visit? Youtube, MySpace and Facebook are great ways to "get your name" out there! Just be sure that your parents are 100% OK with this! Also, your domains should all be the same so they are easier to access.
Example:
www.youtube.com/teenswts
www.myspace.com/teenswts.
www.teenswts.net/.
7. You're ready!
This is the part where you cut the red ribbon and start networking! Or, in this case, continue to work hard to support your cause! :) Trust me, it's going to be hard, but fun! I've enjoyed the past 2 years of running teensWts and wouldn't trade it for the world, but I do have a few more tips for you. :)
--Always be cautious about what you put on the web. If you are under 18, your parents should read your emails with you, also the emails you send. It may seem crazy, but it can fun when you're not working on your site alone. If you over 18, still be sure to have someone helping you with the site, and knows a bit about it. Often times I would be really busy, and would ask a friend to edit something on my website - accountability is amazing. :D
